Chris has trained in several eastern martial arts since his mid-teens, having studied a northern Chinese style of kung fu between 1992 and 1995 and followed this with three years of ju-jitsu, whilst at University.
Chris returned to martial arts at the beginning of 2004 and continues to study ninjutsu with the Bujin Black Belt Academy based in Swindon.
2004 also saw him join Swindon Fencing Club under the instruction of Alan Knowles, who ignited his interest in sword play. He is training and competing in foil and more recently, Epee, which has proved complimentary to the study of medieval sword fencing.
After some (gentle!) persuasion from Alan and Simon, Chris decided to try his hand at medieval Longsword combat and has been hooked ever since. It is a testament to the logical structure of the training that one year on, Chris has completed his initial studies into both the German and Italian Longword systems. He is now assisting in the instruction of new members, beginning to study sword and buckler and continuing the long term task of furthering his understanding of the Longsword tactical system.
